DVD Box Sets

Post by ALFsince86 »

For many years I was against DVD box sets (you can be against anything if you try hard enough). Seriously, though, I had a good reason. First off, what if you don't WANT all the episodes from one season? What if you only want, say, 19 episodes from an entire series. I still have this issue, but I have decided that you can buy your favorite season from a particular series and live without favorites from other seasons that you don't care as much for overall.

My first box set was LOONEY TUNES GOLDEN COLLECTION, which was a Christmas gift from my brother. Next came MARTIN & LEWIS COLLECTION VOL. 1 (another Christmas gift from my brother).

Yes, I did eventually start buying them on my own. "M*A*S*H Season 3" was the first that followed my new philosophy of "buy your favorite season". The only other "M*A*S*H" episode I REALLY wanted was the finale, and thankfully it did come out on DVD by itself.

I knew I wanted ALF SEASON TWO on DVD for the hour-long Christmas Special. I'm glad to have been a winner in the most recent contest, because I really enjoy ALF SEASON ONE as well.

At $79.99 each I won't be buying MONKEES box sets anytime soon, but I did get OUR FAVORITE EPISODES.

I purchased MARTIN & LEWIS COLLECTION VOL. 2 myself. I would buy the JERRY LEWIS COLLECTION, but I bought the DVDs individually.

Most recently I have purchased THE MUNSTERS SEASON 2 and ordered SEASON 1. That will give me all the episodes, but there were only two seasons.

In the future I hope they will release further seasons of THE FACTS OF LIFE as well as issue THE GUARDIAN (Simon Birch) on DVD.

I don't think I'll ever be head-over-heels about box sets (too expensive, take up too much time to watch and too much space on the shelf. Still, I am coming around.

I love DVD box-sets, there's so much on them it's like a dream when you buy a DVD season from a show you really love. I couldn't imagine buying just a few season from a show, I have to have it complete or it's no good.

If there's a show where I only like a few season of, it's not such a good show.

And it's not a pain to go through something you love, not to me anyway :)

I have to REALLY like the show to buy the DVD sets as well. I do own:

ALF - all four seasons of course
Third Rock from the Sun season 1 - got it for free
Grounded for Life season 1 - got it for free
Night Court season 1 - had to get it, one of my favorite shows
Star Trek - rather not go into detail on this one, lets just say I own every season of every series (lots of $$$ gone on that, but well worth it)

My wife owns all the That 70's Show DVDs out so far...5 or 6 seasons, don't remember - the next is due in a month or two.

I know you love Night Court, has season 2 not been released yet or are you just waiting on buying it?

Season 1 was a flop, as was the "Best of" DVD, so it is doubtful that season 2 will be released. Season 1 was released February 8, 2005 (2.5 years ago) so after this long of a wait I'm not too confident. I have the series on VHS so I guess that'll have to do for now.

Wow that must suck since I know you're such a big fan of the show! I hate it when a company releases a show in DVD then just stops. A shame indeed.

Wow, it's nice to see this generated/is generating so much conversation.

Eventually I might like to get a season or so of Cosby and, in addition to later seasons of "The Facts of Life" I'd also like later seasons of "Diff'rent Strokes".

I agree it's not a chore to watch something you enjoy, but how do you find the time if you buy, say, all the seasons of a series that was on for 12 years? Like "Dallas".

What I'm desperately waiting for is ACCORDING TO JIM!

Oh, what I found works great when buying DVDs and CDs is actually buying them USED off of Amazon.com - it may sound strange (buying used stuff) but you can buy a "used but near mint" CD or DVD for sometimes half (or less) than what it costs new at the store. I've saved a lot of money doing this. I've never gotten anything defective, but there is always the chance.

According to Jim hasn't been released on DVD yet??? That's odd since it's a show that is popular and still on the air... Let me know when you hear anything, I'm interested in buying that show to on DVD.
