Side characters

Does anyone else think the writers should have utilized side characters more? Example: Beverly Archer (Mrs. Byrd) was awesome in Someone to Watch Over Me....now if they had introduced Alf to HER, they could have done a lot of scathing back and forth...whether or not it would have been too similar to Kate's mother I have no idea. Incidentally, given the military background she mentions in that episode, I think it was cool to see her have a military role as one of the researchers (psychologist maybe? Judging by her interactions with him) in Project: Alf. Sigh, oh to see such a great show die before its time.

Well i know that the creators were grasping at straws (that season 5 military base plot for instance) but i'm sure that Mrs. Bird was intended as a one-off all along. Of course i personally always liked it when ALF met someone other than Tanners.
