Website Ideas Wanted

Post by Admin »

Since pretty much all of ALF (except for most of the cartoons) have already been released on DVD the ALF World has been pretty slow as of late (the last year or so) - no new merchandise either.

As always I am looking for new ideas to bring new people to the website and promote ALF. As you already know, the summer contest went pretty well and brought many people to the website (although it was a little pricey from my end, lol).

Currently, I am trying to get the "Ask ALF" thing back up (but with little success). I have also had no success with contacting Liz Sheridan for a possible interview. I am going to try Alf Clausen (wrote the season one/two theme music for the ALF sitcom, as well as the theme for The Simpsons and many others).

What I'd also like to try in the future - fan contributions to the website. For example, fans could write a Max Wright or Paul Fusco biography and I'll link it along with their names on the website. I haven't had too much luck with this in the past (mostly fan reviews I was asking for though) but maybe it'll get a few more people coming back to the website. Also, I've been thinking of trying a "Fan of the Month" type of contest, but we'll see on that.

If you have ANY ideas (no matter how crazy they may seem) please let me know - I can't guarantee I can make good on any/all of them, but if something hits me the right way I'd really like to try it.

The website is averaging roughly 8500 visits to the website a month (probably 750-1000 being from us here at the forum) and more than half only stay a minute - they find what they are looking for and leave. Basically, I'd like something that will keep them on the website. Good news is that forum activity is still at an all time high. I remember there were a few ALF games a few years back - I'm going to try and track them down and get them on the website somehow.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated - just contact me or reply to this thread. By working together I'm sure we can come up with some great ideas to promote ALF. Also, invite your friends to the website - the more the merrier.

Thanks!!!

I will give this some thought and perhaps I can come up with something good.

One thing, this isn't exactly a "new idea" to the forums but I have noticed that the polls here on the forum does not have that many participants and that's a real shame. It would be nice to see what more ALF fans think about certain things.

Maybe you could have a section on the front page where you list some of the polls going on in the forum? Just a thought, do with it as you wish.

Ooooooooooooooooo - idea, idea, idea!

Many website actually have a "Weekly Poll" - I could add it to the website and have a link to the forum where people can participate in the Weekly Poll.

Thanks Axel!

Hey, no problem ;) You might want to make it a monthly poll though, so that poll-ideas keeps being fresh for a longer time and get more votees.

I would really like a picture/photo gallery. Photos from the series (original TV series, ALF (cartoon), ALF Tales), but also candid photos, cast photos, ALF hit talk show, ALF memorabilia, etc.

I like your idea of fan-written material. Bios, etc. There used to be a fansite for Michael Landon called Landonland and they encouraged fans to write individual reviews for each episode of "Little House" and his other shows. We could have Episode Guides of each ALF series and reviews as fans wrote them (until the first review you would just have the name of the episode).

There is already a picture gallery viewable on this site. Look under "Pictures" on the menu.
