I think dwindling ratings were the primary reason for NBC pulling the plug. Plus, I read that the writers were starting to run out of fresh ideas. I haven't really heard anything about what they might have come up with for a 5th season had they been able to go through with it.

Certainly drop in ratings over the last two years of the ALF TV series, resulting from mistakes by both NBC and Alien Productions, contributed to cancellation; however, I remember also reading way back then in news articles that contract dispute between NBC and Alien Productions could not be resolved prior to start of new season (#5), thus prompting NBC to drop ALF from schedule of shows for the Fall season.

I always thought there were 5 seasons. But obviously not :o(

So it's 86-87, 87-88, 88-89, 89-90?

Oh well, at least it's over 100 episodes of pleasure!

By the way, they COULD have done another season, but chose not to, and the cast was geting tired of the show basically. That's what I've heard anyways...

One thing that's been interesting me for a while: could there possibly be a connection between our Tanners and the Full House Tanners? That might have been an interesting thing to play off of if they'd gotten cooperation from ABC. They go up to San Francisco to visit for the weekend, Alf stows away as usual...
