R.I.P. Anne Meara
I have some unfortunate news to pass along. We have lost a member of the ALF cast today
R.I.P. Anne Meara. She passed away at the age of 85.

I always loved her character. She played the perfect antithesis to ALF!

Did you all know she wrote the episode "Break Up to Make Up?" I just learned that from IMDB. Not only a beloved guest star, but an episode writer also!

Re: R.I.P. Anne Meara
This news had escaped me. How sad! She was so great on the show and everything else I've seen her in. Really liked her character on the show. R.I.P.
Yeah, I think I caught that some years ago and was pretty surprised.samstokes80 wrote:Did you all know she wrote the episode "Break Up to Make Up?" I just learned that from IMDB. Not only a beloved guest star, but an episode writer also!

Re: R.I.P. Anne Meara
Her rapport with ALF was great, and some of the back and forth has had me crying !
"Orange Bath mat"
I`ve got the European DVD set, and all the writing on the inlays, is in German, but thankfully it lists the writer/director of
each episode, and I`ve just seen the episode she wrote is in S4, so I haven`t missed it yet, and it`s still to come.

Re: R.I.P. Anne Meara
The european DVDs are great; I got them as a Christmas present years ago. But I would recommend you to also order the new set from Shout! Factory, because the only two cutted episodes(For Your Eyes Only and The Ballad Of Gilligan’s Island) in the european release are complete there; plus they have the animated series, which weren't published anywhere else.Calmly Taken Flame wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 3:39 am Her rapport with ALF was great, and some of the back and forth has had me crying !

Regarding Anne Meara
I always liked the character of Dorothy and it's ineractions with ALF in the few episodes she were in. When I rewatched the show as a 14 year old ten years ago, I always did some research on my favourite TV shows and, at the time, was surprised learning that she was the mother of Ben Stiller. She also has a cameo appearance in the beginning of her sons's movie "Night at the museum".

Re: R.I.P. Anne Meara
Will definitely look into this new boxset, as I`ve never seen any of the animated series, might search youtube for them later.
Wait ? what ? Anne Meara is Ben Stiller`s Mother ? And his Father is Jerry Stiller ? If ever there was a case for someone having
pure 100% comedy in their DNA, it`s Ben Stiller ! He`s forged his own legacy in comedy, and also as a straight actor, he`s made
me laugh in so many films, so many times, but my favourite part that he`s played, was in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
He was AMAZING in that, and showcased what a diverse actor he is, and he`s not always about making you laugh.
I wonder if he`s ever checked out these forums, to read up on his Mother, and her appearances in the show ?!
