Just been watching the latest episode of Family Guy. At the start there is a dream sequence where the Griffins go to visit their new neighbours who, it turns out, have an alien who lives in the attic. He also wants to borrow $50 to buy something from ebay which I can't mention here and makes a wise-crack about Meg.
Now, he looks nothing like Alf but I think the subtext is there to be read.

"Alf" on Family Guy
I don't want to be an orphan. I saw "Annie." Orphans have to eat gruel and tap dance with mops.
Re: "Alf" on Family Guy
The neighbors are the Smiths from American Dad, Family Guy's sister show. The alien is Roger and he's a regular cast member on American Dad. Chances are his character is as much a reference to ET as it is to Alf. Although both Alf and ET are much nicer characters than Roger who is an alcoholic, drug abusing, violent, amoral psycho. But that's part of what makes him so funny. I'd compare him to Bender from Futurama but even Bender is a more moral character than Roger.

What? They do a crossover? Oh man, now I'll see it coming Oh well
Roger is definitely inspired by ALF, I actually wrote about the influence at the bottom of this section of my site: http://alfanatic.webs.com/ALFonOtherShows.htm
