As stated in the introduction, the choice of character class affects where in Path of exile currency the ability that is passive tree starts. While the building of the Marauder class dependent on the STR feature is the simplest, nothing prevents you from making this course a magician or hunter battling with bows.

In addition to the personality classes players can unlock development paths according to Ascendency mechanics' Trails. Because of this, each class gains the ability to unlock a"subclass", offering additional passive bonuses and enabling even better customization of the character for the player.

Templar - accessibility to the Hierophant, Inquisitor and Guardian classes. Shadow - access to the Trickster, Saboteur and Assassin classes. Marauder - access into the Chieftain, Berserker and Juggernaut classes. Scion - accessibility Ascendant, to one course. Ranger - access to Pathfinder, Raider and Deadeye classes. Duelist - access to the Slayer, Gladiator and Champion classes. Witch - access into the Necromancer, Elementalist and Occultist classes.

In Path of Exile, as in hack and slash games, things - in this instance weapon and armor elements - may have slots.
